The First Stage

The first level of digital transformation maturity is also called level zero or level zero maturity. This is the initial stage where you are not able to say that you are ready for digital transformation or that you are not ready for it. This is because you don’t know what digital transformation is and what its implications are on your business.

This level is mainly characterized by unawareness. Unawareness about what digital transformation means, its impact, and how to do it.

The Second Stage

The second level of maturity is also called level one or level one maturity. This is the next level after the unawareness stage. This level is characterized by being aware of what digital transformation means, being aware of its impact on your business, and being aware of how to go about digital transformation.

The second stage is also characterized by making preparations for digital transformation, but because these preparations are not complete, it is still hard to say that you have come out of the first stage that you have entered into the second stage.

Level one maturity means that you have made preparations for digital transformation, but these preparations are incomplete and inadequate.

The Third Stage

The third stage or level two maturity is where you can say that you are ready for digital transformation. Level two maturity means that you have come out of the unawareness stage and have entered into the preparation stage.

This level is characterized by having a high focus on technology and having completed the preparations for digital transformation. Also, this means having started adopting new technologies and processes, having started building up a workforce that is capable of using technology, and having started making changes to the business model.

Level two maturity also means that you are now able to assess the impact of digital transformation on your business.

The Fourth Stage

The fourth stage or level three maturity is where you can say that you have achieved digital transformation. This is an advanced stage where you can integrate various technologies, processes, and organizational structures in your business.

Level three maturity also means that you have achieved integration across all your business functions, your business functions are now integrated. Hence the name ‘level three’.

This is where you can say that you have come out of digital transformation and into digital transition. This is the final stage of the Digital Transformation Lifecycle.
